Statistics
Date: December 7, 1941
Americans killed: around 2,300
Ships destroyed:
-USS Arizona killing 1,177 of the 1,400 people on the ship at the time
-USS West Virginia, not secondarily "sunken" but abandoned and fallen to the bottom of the harbor
(There are many disagreement about how many ships were sunken, partly because Pearl Harbor was shallow, so it was impossible for a ship to go completely below the top of the water. Several were put out of commission during the attack, but all except the Arizona and the Utah were repaired and returned to seaworthiness, so therefore, only 2 actually sunk.)
